Demonstrating an experimental and elastic approach to abstraction, she employed both geometric and biomorphic methods to organize the compositional plane in her paintings, which is exemplified in works like untitled (1952). In this small-scale composition, acid green, bright orange, and navy blue are applied in oblong shapes against a monochromatic maroon background. Using the back of her brush, Parsons carved into the wet gouache revealing dried layers below and dragging paint across the paper surface.
