Jennie C. Jones’s interdisciplinary practice seeks to engage viewers visually and aurally. Drawing on painting, sculpture, sound, and installation, her unconventional materials and reductive compositions highlight the perception of sound within the visual arts. Among her most recent works illustrating what Jones refers to as "the gesture of sound,” Graphite Movement #1 (2021) utilizes black silkscreen ink. Contrasting bold gesture with the restrained linearity of a musical staff, for the artist, this composition suggests reverberating sound waves and tonal bursts. Balancing this visual cacophony with the geometry of musical notation, the image achieves a delicate equilibrium between reductive formalism and unfettered personal expression.
