Rendered in highly saturated tones, these paintings mark a return to Semmel's vivid color palette of the early 1970s. At the same time, the subject matter is very much anchored in the present, focusing on the artist's depiction of her own aging body. At this later stage in life, she says, "You're still dealing with sexuality, but it's not about seduction… The colors are the seduction here." In Triangles (2021), Semmel emphasizes abstraction through expressive brushwork and diversity of paint applications, ranging from the nearly opaque fill of the lime green background to the looser brushwork used to render curves and flesh in warmer tones.
